The Tattoo History Project is a research endeavor to record the oral history of early-era American tattooing (early 1900s through the 1970s). Much of this history has been retold and passed down through generations of tattooers, however, very little of it has been officially recorded or published. Through the process of personal interviews and research, I am compiling as much information and personal anecdotes as possible with the intent to publish a book and potentially additional articles on the subject matter.
If you have a story or information you'd like to share, please contact me. I'd love to hear your story! I'm especially seeking first hand experiences, photographs (whether old photos of tattooed people or current photos or old tattoos), and stories of getting tattooed or tattooing during the 1940s-1970s.
